Q: What type of window film do you supply?

You name it, we probably have it. We have a wide range of Frosted Films, Plain, Patterned or Printed; we also do Solar Control Films for when things get too hot or too bright, Safety Films to update old glass, Colour Transparency Film to give your windows that period look, and a whole range of bespoke products including house numbers, window stickers, printed wallpaper and wall murals.

Q: What do you call the film that goes on glass and makes it obscure?

We call it Frosted/ Sandblasted Window Film, Frosted Glass Film or Sandblasted Window Film. Just don’t call it fablon! We have a wide selection of privacy window film.

Q: What is window film?

Window film is a thin sheet of plastic, usually vinyl or polyester which is designed to stick or cling to the surface of glass and for a variety of uses – be it for privacy, decorative, solar or safety requirements.
We have a large range of products manufactured exclusively for SFF, backed with our trademark paper which has a metric grid printed on it for ease of marking and cutting.

Q: What tools do I need to apply window film?

All you’ll need is a spray trigger bottle, a squeegee and some Fairy liquid. We supply a small felt edge squeegee with your order, but you can buy a complete fitting kit from us.

Q: How easy is it to install window film?

We say it’s simple and so do many of our customers!

We send out detailed instructions with every order – just take a few moments to read it carefully before embarking on your first piece, the Sales Team are also just a call away to explain any detail you made need to make your DIY project a breeze.

We’ve also created some video tutorials which are most helpful.

Q: How long does window film last?

Most of our internal window films come with a 10 year warranty and would usually last much longer, unless you fancy a change!

Q: How do I remove window film?

The technique is the same for all types of film, the time you will spend depends on how long the film has been on the glass for. Please look at our video tutorial.
If you would like us to come and remove your old film and install new film please let us know and we can give you a quote for both.

Q: I’m looking to put up a privacy film that I can see out of but no one can see in.

We’re often asked about a mirror film that allows you to look out, but people can’t see in. Mirror film is in effect a Reflective Window Film, commonly used on commercial properties. It works as intended only during daytime hours, as the level of light inside needs to be lower than outside. So at night, it works in reverse.

Alternative solutions: Use a Frosted/ Sandblasted Film but do not cover the whole window, position it so that it is slightly above eye level to prevent passers-by from looking directly into your room. You can still leave an area clear to enjoy your view.
Use one of our bespoke etch effect designs which have clear patterns within the frost.
Use a partial obscure Window Film. Some areas are clear, some are frosted. This will not create total privacy, but will deter onlookers as they shall have to get close to the glass to see through.

Q: Is window film suitable for bathrooms?

Our films are completely safe to use in bathrooms and will last for many years. We only advise that if you are applying it to a shower screen that you put it on the reverse side of the glass. Although water on the film will not damage it, over time lime scale may build up on the surface of the film. We recommend you use a soft cloth when cleaning rather than anything abrasive, which may damage the film. It won’t be affected by condensation and will not peel off the glass.

Q: I’m really worried about leaving bubbles and creases behind when I apply the film!

Our wet application installation method is a proven method for installing films and window graphics, and has been used in the signage industry for decades. It works! The technique is very forgiving and gives you plenty of opportunity to reposition the film before it dries.

Q: Do you install window film professionally?

Probably 99.9% of our customers will put the film up themselves with great success. It is so much easier to apply than you think! Most of the installation work we complete is for commercial buildings as the amount of glass to cover is not usually a DIY project.

Q: I’m on your website but need a price for my window measurements; can you give me a quote?

All the prices are on the website. Once you select the product you require there is an option to choose the quantity you require and the prices are displayed alongside.
You will need to enter your measurements (in m) for the price to be calculated automatically. The prices displayed always include VAT and Delivery, unless you need priority next day delivery or are ordering from outside of South Africa. Or if a full roll is ordered, delivery in SA is free.

Q: My film has arrived but there does not appear to be any backing paper on it? Have I received the wrong product?

Some of our films, for example the mirror & safety films and the partial obscure films have a thin, clear backing “liner”, rather than a backing “paper”.

This can be quite tricky to peel off especially if you do not have long finger nails! We recommend you use a small piece of sticky tape on opposing side of the film, in one corner, to “pluck” the film apart from its liner.

Q: I need a bespoke print or design incorporated in the film. Is that possible?

This is something we do a lot for our corporate clients. We can print any image on clear or frosted film, as long as it is high resolution. We can also print repeat patterns or match an existing pattern you might have.
